PINEVILLE, La. –
Payton Berger and
Kaycie Dunkerley combined for 48 points and the Concordia Texas women's basketball team held off a late Louisiana College comeback to win it 72-70 on Thursday for their third victory in a row.
The Tornados knocked down a season-high 17 3-pointers in the game, including a 4-for-9 shooting performance by Berger, who scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
Concordia Texas led from the tip and headed into the final period with a six-point edge. The Wildcats would claw back into the game though, opening the quarter with a 9-3 run to tie it up at 56-all.
The Tornados would go right back on top with their own run, scoring eight straight points, thanks in part to back-to-back 3-pointers from Dunkerley and KeTurah Taylor, who finished the game with 11 points.
Dunkerley, meanwhile, would hit a career-high seven threes, scoring 23 points, dishing out a career-high eight assists along with five boards and four steals.
The lead would balloon to nine after a Berger 3-pointer with 2:15 to play, before LC would reel off seven points in a row and cut the lead to 70-68 with under a minute left.
On the ensuing possession, Dunkerley would find Berger under the basket for a layup to ice the game and CTX held on for a 72-70 win.
The Tornados will stay on the road, traveling to Jackson, Miss., for a conference matchup with Belhaven on Saturday at 1 p.m.
