Dunkerley's career-high completes Tornados' comeback win over Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas – Kaycie Dunkerley poured in a career-high 31 points and the Concordia Texas women's basketball team rallied from an eight-point deficit to defeat Schreiner 79-73 in an overtime thriller on Monday.

Knotted at 65-all, the Tornados, who trailed by eight at the end of the first half, would get one last chance to win it in regulation but Alyssa Marquez was unable to get the jumper to drop and the game headed to overtime.

In the extra period, CTX would take their largest lead since the first quarter with a 7-0 run and never looked back, outscoring SU 14-8 to complete the comeback with a 79-73 win.

In the first half, Payton Berger would lead the offensive attack, scoring 12 of her 20 points in the half alone. The Tornados would jump out to an 18-10 edge after one, but went cold in the second, scoring only nine points and trailed 35-27 at the halfway point.

In the third quarter, Dunkerley would catch fire from downtown, knocking down four of her six treys in the period as CTX outscored the Mountaineers 23-18 and climbed back within three.

In the fourth, Dunkerley would continue to find her way to the cup, scoring six points, including two from the free-throw line to give the Tornados their first lead of the second half at 62-60.

She would hit three more from the charity stripe in the overtime period to give her a career-high 31 points for the night as CTX completed the comeback.

Dunkerley finished with 31 points and seven rebounds, while Berger nearly had her second double-double of the season with 20 points and nine rebounds. Lindsay Carter, meanwhile, had totaled a season-high nine points and added six boards.

Next up, the Tornados will return to conference play when they travel to Richardson, Texas to take on UT Dallas on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
