RICHARDSON, Texas –
Payton Berger scored a career-best 26 points and notched her second double-double of the year as the Concordia Texas women's basketball team made a late charge in the fourth quarter but came up short to No. 18 UT Dallas 70-59 on Thursday.
The Tornados would trail by as much as 22 to the Comets late in the third quarter and headed to the final frame down 61-42.
In the fourth, CTX would begin to make its run, cutting the deficit to 10 after Kaycie Dunkerely's layup with 5:47 to play.
The Tornados would continue to chip away, thanks in part to Berger's seven points in the quarter, and cut it to 67-59 after
Lindsay Carter sank a three-pointer.
UT Dallas would push their lead back to double-digits late though as CTX's rally fell short 70-59.
Berger would finish the game shooting over 50 percent from the floor and scoring a career-high 26 points and grabbing 10 boards to record her second double-double of the season. Dunkerley, coming off her 31-point scoring effort on Monday, finished with 14 points for the night.
Up next, the Tornados will have a long layoff before returning home to host UT Tyler on Dec. 15 at 1 p.m. inside Concordia Fieldhouse. The game will not count as a conference game due to the Patriots reclassifying to Division II.
