AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's basketball team continued their hot streak on Saturday at Concordia Fieldhouse as they knocked off Mary Hardin-Baylor 61-55 to push their winning streak to six games.
The Tornados (13-10, 9-6 ASC) finished their six game home stand unbeaten and sit just 1.5 back of second place in the ASC West. The six wins in a row are the most for CTX since they started the season 7-0 in the 2015-16 season.
UMHB got off to a hot start, opening the game on a 7-2 run and led by as many as eight in the first quarter.
Trailing 20-12, the Tornados went on a 9-0 run to close the first and start the second to take a one-point lead. The lead traded hands six times in the second quarter alone as the Cru went into the break up 36-34.
CTX outscored UMHB by seven points in the third and extended their lead to double digits when
Raven Cato hit a free throw to put the Tornados up 59-49 with 6:08 left in the game.
The Cru made things interesting down the stretch, cutting the lead to five with 1:54 left. CTX held on, however, holding UMHB to 21.9 percent from the floor in the second half.
Three different Tornados' scored in double figures as
Jaela Dejean,
Kaycie Dunkerley and
Mercedes Ellison produced 13, 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Ellison, a junior out of Victoria, picked up her third double-double of the season with 10 rebounds to go along with her 10 points.
Senior's Dejean and
Desiray Davis were recognized for their fantastic careers at CTX following the game. Dejean, out of Houston, added eight assists and five steals while Davis, from San Antonio, Texas, produced eight points and five boards in the win.
The Tornados play their final two games of the season on the road, starting with a matchup in Brownwood, Texas, against Howard Payne Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
