BROWNWOOD, Texas –
Payton Berger had a near double-double but the Concordia Texas women's basketball team came up short to Howard Payne 73-69, snapping their six-game win streak.
Berger would pour in 19 points and grab nine rebounds as the Tornados had three players finish in double figures.
Concordia Texas would shoot nearly 50 percent from the field but trailed 36-31 at the midway point.
The Tornados would mount a rally in third quarter, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 24-15. Berger was the go-to on offense, scoring nine points in the quarter.
In the final quarter, Berger would get the layup to go and CTX would hold a 62-61 lead with over five minutes to play.
Howard Payne would retake the lead though on a 10-3 run and go on to take the game 73-69.
Mercedes Ellison shot 9-15 from the field for 18 points along with seven rebounds, while
Jaela Dejean had 16 points.
The Tornados will close out their regular season, traveling to Alpine, Texas to face Sul Ross State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
