AUSTIN, Texas – A Hardin-Simmons single in the fifth would break up
Jorden Russell's no-hitter but the Concordia Texas softball team would come away with a 14-0 win in their home opener on Thursday.
Russell would pitch five innings, striking out six Cowgirls and walked none, picking up her first win as a Tornado as the game was called due to the run rule.
Concordia Texas would give Russell plenty of run support as well. After being held scoreless in the first inning, the Tornados would explode for six runs in back-to-back innings and led 12-0 after three frames.
The Tornados would add a pair of runs in the fourth inning and go on to take it 14-0.
Brittani Whitten went 3-3 from the plate with four RBIs and scored once. Four other hitters would each have two hits for CTX, including
Olivia Kaase, who scored twice and drove in two.
The Tornados close out the series against Hardin-Simmons on Friday with a doubleheader, playing the first game at 4 p.m. from Tornado Softball Field.
