Tornados' big inning key in win over UMHB

BELTON, Texas – The Concordia Texas Softball team's four-run sixth inning proved to be the difference, splitting a doubleheader against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday.

In the first game, the Tornados would grab the lead first after a Haley Dennett RBI single in the fourth brought home Brittani Whitten to make it 1-0. Anissa Garcia would bring home two more runs in the fifth on a single and give CTX a 3-0 lead.

Jorden Russell was unhittable for the Tornados as she did not give up a hit  untill the bottom of the fifth. The Cru would retake the lead in the inning though, utilizing five walks to go on top 4-3.

Concordia Texas was unable to tie it in the final two innings, dropping game one 5-3.

In the second game of the night, the Tornados would jump out to a 6-0 lead after a six-run third inning, where Garcia had another two-run single and Payton Walker had a bases-clearing three-run double.

Mary Hardin-Baylor would respond though with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and three more runs in the fourth on a home run, making it 6-5 heading into the fifth.

Concordia Texas would pull away though in the sixth, pushing across four runs on five hits, including Whitten's third hit of the day, bringing home Emma Martino.

Russell would enter in the seventh and shut the door on the Cru, allowing just a hit as CTX snapped their four-game losing streak with a 10-7 win.

Summer Harper would also have three hits for the Tornados, while Simone Langland tossed four innings to pick up her third win of the season.

Up next, CTX will take on UMHB in the series finale on Saturday at 12 p.m. in Belton, Texas.
