Tornados cruise past Sul Ross State

AUSTIN, Texas – Behind superb pitching performances by Jorden Russell and Simone Langland, the Concordia Texas softball team defeated Sul Ross State twice in Friday's doubleheader.

Russell would go the distance for the Tornados, allowing only one run on one hit while striking out three Lobos.

Anissa Garcia had a pair of hits, driving in one, while Mycahla Howard was a perfect 3-3 from the plate and scored once.

Leading 3-1 in the fifth, Brittani Whitten would send a moon shot over the left field wall for her third home run of the season. She finished with the lone hit, walking once and scoring twice for CTX.

Russell would shut SRSU down in the seventh and pick up her third win of the year as the Tornados took the game 5-1.

In the second game of the night, Langland continued where Russell left off, not allowing a Lobos hit till the fourth inning.

Garcia, meanwhile, broke up the game for the Tornados with a bases-clearing three-run triple in the third inning. Howard followed with an RBI single later in the inning and CTX led 5-0 after three frames.

Langland would cruise the rest of the way, allowing a run in the seventh but no further damage as the Tornados won the game 5-1. Haley Dennett scored once and was a perfect 3-3 from the plate.

Concordia Texas goes for the sweep of the Lobos on Saturday at 12 p.m. from Tornado Softball Field.
