AUSTIN, Texas –
Alexia Rowe's RBI single in the fourth gave the Concordia Texas softball team the lead for good, sweeping Sul Ross State with a 5-2 win on Saturday.
Tied a 1-all after playing four and a half, the Tornados responded with three of their own runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Jorden Russell led off the inning with the first of her two doubles on the day. After
Olivia Kaase's single and stolen base, Rowe came through with a single through the left side to break the tie.
Concordia Texas would add on two more runs after an RBI ground out by
Haley Dennett and RBI single from
Brittani Whitten.
Russell would complete five innings, allowing only the one run on three hits, picking up her fourth win of the year.
Russell would give the Tornados an insurance run with an RBI double in the fifth to make it 5-1.
The Lobos would threaten in the final inning, loading the bases. With one out, CTX would turn a double play to end the game, giving
Taylor Verinsky, who came in relief in the seventh, the save.
Up next, the Tornados will host Southwestern in a single game on Monday at 7 p.m. from Tornado Softball Field. The game was originally schedule for Tuesday, March 27, but moved up due to impending weather conditions.
