JACKSON, Miss. –
Brittani Whitten homered twice as the Concordia Texas softball team split a doubleheader against Belhaven on Friday.
In the first game of the day, Whitten would give the Tornados a 1-0 lead with a home run to left in the fourth inning.
The Blazers would respond in the sixth though, scoring a pair of runs on three hits, leading 2-1 going into the seventh.
In their final at bat, CTX would have a chance, moving runners to first and second with no one out. But BU would retire the next three batters, ending the game.
In the second game of the day, the Tornados would strike first with an
Anissa Garcia two-run single, scoring Whitten and
Diana Payne.
The Blazers countered with a run in the first and would take their first lead of the game in the fourth, scoring two runs.
In the 5th, CTX would rally, as
Alexia Rowe doubled to left, scoring
Taylor Smith from second. Whitten would give the Tornados the lead for good with a two-run home run to left, her fifth of the season.
Simone Langland would tie a program-record with nine strikeouts, allowing only four hits, picking up her fourth win of the year as CTX won 5-3.
The Tornados will play the rubber game of the series on Saturday at 11 a.m. from McLeod Field.
