Langland sets program's single-game record with 10 K's

BROWNWOOD, Texas – Simone Langland struck out a school-record 10 batters, while Jorden Russell had a go-ahead two-run double as the Concordia Texas softball team took the first two games of the series against Howard Payne on Friday.

In game one, leading 1-0 going into the bottom of the seventh, the Yellow Jackets would tie it at 1-all with an RBI double, sending the game into extra innings.

In the eighth, Haley Dennett would reach on an error, steal second and reach third base after a passed ball. One out later, Summer Harper would be hit by a pitch to put runners at the corners with Russell coming to the plate. She would send a double into the gap, bringing home Dennett and Jaden Shoults, who pinch-ran for Harper, as CTX retook the lead.

In the bottom half of the inning, after a walk, Russell would retire the final three batters, including recording her career-high ninth strikeout of the afternoon, as the Tornados won 3-1.

In game two, Simone Langland would continue the pitching dominance for the Tornados, punching out a program-record 10 Yellow Jackets.

Concordia Texas would give plenty of run support to Langland as well, including a five-run second inning all coming with two outs.

The Tornados would add three runs in the third, including a two-run single by Alexia Rowe, who went 3-for-3 from the plate with three RBIs and a run scored in the game.

Langland, meanwhile, struck out two batters each in the first three frames, before striking out the side in the fourth.

In the final inning, CTX added a pair of runs on RBI singles by Morgan Loredo and Miranda Mueller to make it 10-0. In the bottom half of the inning, HPU would get on the board with two runs of their own to make it 10-2.

Langland would finish off the game though, inducing a pop out and striking out her record-breaking 10th-batter to end the game as the Tornados won 10-2.

Concordia Texas has now won six games in a row and will go for the sweep of Howard Payne on Saturday at noon from Lady Jacket Park in Brownwood, Texas.
