AUSTIN, Texas –
Anissa Garcia homered for the second time this season as the Concordia Texas softball team would split two games against Louisiana College on Friday.
In game one, the Tornados would only have one hit through the first six innings and trailed 4-0 going into the bottom half of the seventh.
In their final at bat,
Alexia Rowe and
Brittani Whitten opened the inning with back-to-back singles. Two outs later, Garcia would put CTX on the board with a single up the middle to make it 4-1.
After a
Haley Dennett single, Mychala Howard would try to continue the inning, but she would be retired to end the game as the Tornados fell 4-1.
In the second game,
Simone Langland would strike out three of the first six batters.
Garcia, meanwhile, would send a ball over the left field wall to give CTX an early 1-0 lead. It is the second time this season that Garcia has gone yard.
The Tornados would add to their lead in the fifth after two of the first three batters reached. With two outs and runners at second and third, Rowe would come through with a two-run single to left and make it 3-0.
Louisiana College would threaten in the next half inning, scoring a run before loading the bases with only out.
Jorden Russell would enter in relief and escape out of the inning, inducing a strikeout and a ground out to keep it 3-1 in favor of CTX.
Russell would close it out in the seventh for her second save of the season, retiring the side in order as CTX held on to win 3-1 and even the series up at one apiece.
The Tornados will take on the Wildcats in the rubber game on Saturday at noon from Tornado Softball Field.
