AUSTIN, Texas – After a first-inning run,
Jorden Russell shut down Louisiana College with six scoreless frames as the Concordia Texas softball team took the series with a 5-1 win on Saturday.
Trailing 1-0, the Tornados would respond quickly. After an RBI sac bunt by
Brittani Whitten, CTX would go ahead 2-1 on Haley Dennet's RBI double to right. Dennett finished with 2-for-3 day at the plate with a pair of RBIs.
Russell, meanwhile, would allow eight hits over seven innings, working out of multiple situations to keep the Wildcats, who left eight on base, in check.
In the 5th, the Tornados would add on to their lead as
Anissa Garcia singled up the middle to bring home
Diana Payne. Garcia would come around score on Dennett's RBI single to left to make it 4-1.
Russell would add an insurance run in the sixth with a solo home run over the left field scoreboard, her first homer of the season, and CTX led 5-1 going into the final inning.
After a leadoff single, Russell retired three of the next four batters, including racking up her fifth strikeout of the game, as the Tornados defeated LC 5-1.
Up next, CTX will host University of Dallas in a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday, beginning at 5 p.m.
