AUSTIN, Texas – Behind a three-run seventh inning, the Concordia Texas baseball team came from behind to defeat UT Tyler 5-4 on Saturday to advance to the championship game of the American Southwest Conference Tournament Blue Bracket.
The Tornados entered the seventh inning trailing 4-2 to the Patriots.
Ryan Clouse opened the inning with a walk, followed by a single by
Casen Novak one out later.
Jacob Gwynne would send a double down the line into the right field corner to bring home Clouse and Novak and tie it up at 4-all.
Carson Cox followed with a single through the right side to score Gwynne and give CTX the lead for good at 5-4.
Justin Traxler, who came in relief of
Calvin Bush in the fifth, would shut down UT Tyler the rest of the way, allowing only one hit and striking out a pair in the ninth to secure the Tornados win.
The one-through-three hitters for CTX finished the game 8-for-11 from the plate with five RBIs and four runs scored. Gwynne himself had three hits on the day, driving in four of the five runs for the Tornados.
Concordia Texas now advances to the championship game of the ASC Blue Bracket and will face the winner of the elimination game between Ozarks and UT Tyler at 1 p.m. on Sunday from Tornado Field.
