SEGUIN, Texas – Late goals from
Omar Aguirre and
Nash Cole completed the comeback as the Concordia Texas men's soccer team rallied to defeat Texas Lutheran 2-1 in their season opener on Friday.
Trailing 1-0 with under 10 minutes left in the game, the Tornados began their comeback.
Aguirre, who had a pair of goals in the 2017 season opener, found the back of the net from the six-yard mark in the 82nd minute to tie it up at 1-all.
Alex Hayek and
Joel Abrego would pick up assists on the play as well.
Two minutes later, CTX was fouled inside the box resulting in a penalty kick. Cole, in the 84th minute, would convert the penalty kick to make it 2-1 in favor of the Tornados.
In the final minutes of the game, TLU would threaten one last time with a corner kick, but CTX was able to defend it, coming from behind to defeat the Bulldogs 2-1.
It is the Tornados' third season-opening win in the last four years and fourth-straight win over TLU.
Concordia Texas will go for win number two of the season when they head to Houston to face St. Thomas (TX) on Sunday at 5 p.m.
