AUSTIN, Texas –
Marissa Stinson racked up 14 kills and five blocks as the Concordia Texas volleyball team fell 3-0 to Mary Hardin-Baylor Friday at Concordia Fieldhouse.
The Tornados kept it close the entire match, scoring at least 20 points in each set, but eventually fell in straight sets 24-26, 21-25 and 20-25.
Stinson, a junior from Pearland, Texas, produced double digit kills for the seventh time this season while hitting .524 in the match and finishing just one block short of a career high.
Runs dominated the first set with CTX jumping out to an early 7-3 lead. UMHB responded, however, with an 11-0 run to take the lead 14-7.
Trailing 22-14, the Tornados rallied back with a huge 10-2 run to tie the score at 24. The Cru answered back once again to win the final two points of the set and win 26-24.
After UMHB took set two 25-21, the two teams battled back and forth in the final set. With the score tied 20-20, the Cru got three straight kills from Sarah Paolini to take the lead and eventually win the set 25-20.
Marjani Myles and
Georgia Quiroz were also productive for CTX. Myles, a sophomore out of Houston, picked up nine kills with a .278 attack percentage while Quiroz, a sophomore from Georgetown, Texas, manufactured her fifth double-double of the year with 34 assists and 10 digs.
Next up, the Tornados will welcome Southwestern to Concordia Fieldhouse Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m.
