Tornados down Tigers 2-0 after weather delay

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's soccer team, who would encounter nearly a two-hour weather delay, only allowed five shots the whole game, defeating East Texas Baptist 2-0 for their first shutout of the season on Saturday.

The Tornados would outshoot the Tigers 18-5, putting 11 on goal for the game, as they recorded their first shutout since defeating Louisiana College 3-0 on Sept. 30 of last season.

Concordia Texas would start fast, as Omar Aguirre, to the right side of the box, found Jason Saco-Vertiz, who cut to the middle and put it into the back of net to make it 1-0 in the 12th minute.

In the 14th minute, play would be halted as a lightning delay was announced. The delay would last nearly last two hours before the teams would retake the field.

The Tornados would reach halftime, clinging to a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, CTX would keep the pressure on ETBU and in the 60th minute, on a corner kick from Ronny Garza, it would pay dividends as Nash Cole headed it past the goalie to double the lead. For Cole, it was his second goal of the season.

The Tigers would make a late push in the final minutes of the game, but goalie Rob Oakley was there for the save as the Tornados picked up their second-straight conference win with a 2-0 decision.

Up next for CTX, they will head out on the road to Clarksville, Ark., to face University of the Ozarks on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
