Tornados' late goal earns draw with UT Tyler

TYLER, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's soccer team, who are off to their best conference start in program history, would play to a 1-1 draw against UT Tyler on Saturday.

The Tornados were originally set to face the Patriots at 4:30 p.m., but the teams agreed to a relocation and time change due to rain in the forecast, playing at 11:30 a.m. on the campus of Tyler Junior College.

Concordia Texas would fall behind early when UTT struck with a goal in the 11th minute and took a 1-0 lead.

It was a quiet first half for the Tornados as they were only able to record one shot compared to the Patriots five shots.

In the second half, continuing to trail 1-0, CTX would look to their leading goal scorer, Omar Aguirre, for the equalizer.

Aguirre would provide it in the 86th minute on an assist from Bryan Luna to knot it up at 1-all.

It is the seventh goal of the season for Aguirre, five of them coming in the last four games, and already the fourth-most goals scored in a single-season in program history.

Tied up at one apiece at the end of the 90 minutes, the game headed into overtime.

In the overtime periods, the Tornados would get off two shots but came up empty as the game remained scoreless and ended in a 1-1 draw.

Due to the UT Tyler's reclassifying to Division II, the game did not count toward CTX's conference record.

Up next, the Tornados return home to face Louisiana College on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. from the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas, looking to remain perfect in conference play.
