ROUND ROCK, Texas –
Omar Aguirre and
Joel Abrego would each score as the Concordia Texas men's soccer team shut out Louisiana College 2-0 on Thursday to stay undefeated in conference play.
For the Tornados, it is the third shutout posted in the team's last four games as they continue their best start in American Southwest Conference competition in program history.
Concordia Texas would do all their damage in the first half as Aguirre put the Tornados on the board with his eighth goal of the season.
The goal would come after Aguirre's header from
Alex Hayek's cross hit the crossbar, but Aguirre would follow up his miss by shooting it past the goalie to make it 1-0 in the 22nd minute.
In the 32nd minute, Aguirre would supply the pass across the box to the foot of Abrego, who would shoot past LC's goalie to double up CTX's lead to 2-0. For Abrego, it is his second goal of the year, while Aguirre picked up his third assist on the season.
In the second half, goalie
Rob Oakley and the Tornados defense would protect the two-goal lead, limiting the Wildcats to only six shots in the half.
Oakley, meanwhile, had five saves in the game as he secured his third shutout of the season and 11
th of his career as CTX downed LC 2-0.
Up next, the Tornados will prepare for a matchup with Belhaven, taking on the Blazers on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas.
