ROUND ROCK, Texas – In a game that lasted over five hours and featured a three-hour rain delay, the Concordia Texas women's soccer team dropped Belhaven 2-0 Saturday night at Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
The Tornados earned their second straight shutout victory and have outscored their opponents 8-0 in the last two contests to move to 3-2 in American Southwest Conference action.
Cayla Gonzalez got the scoring started for CTX, heading in her third goal of the year off a beautiful corner kick assist from
Victoria Herrera in the 27th minute.
After halftime, the Tornados and the Blazers played less than two minutes in the second half before a three-hour lightning delay halted action.
The delay did not slow down CTX, however, as they came out of the break continuing to fire on all cylinders.
In the 69th minute, freshman
Savannah McHam found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season.
The Tornado defense was fantastic all game, holding Belhaven to just five total shots. Goalkeeper
Shelby Franco notched her second consecutive shutout and her 11th of her career.
As a team, CTX racked up 23 shots, 10 of which were on goal.
The Tornados will go for their third straight win with a matchup against Howard Payne University on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in Brownwood, Texas.
