GEORGETOWN, Texas –
Joel Abrego recorded his first goal of the season, but the Concordia Texas men's soccer team came up short, falling 2-1 to Southwestern on Friday.
The Tornados totaled 16 shots on the day, six of them on frame. The Pirates would strike first though, scoring in the 12th minute of the game to go up 1-0.
Concordia Texas would not trail long though as
Omar Aguirre found Abrego inside the box, sending a bending ball into the top-right corner of the net to equalize it at 1-1 in the 23rd minute.
At the half, the teams remained tied at 1-all.
In the second half, the Tornados continued to look for the go-ahead goal, tallying three corners and seven shots.
Southwestern would retake the lead though in the 75th minute after a cross into the box led to a headed goal.
Daniel Valadez would seek the equalizer in the final minute of the game, but the Pirates were there for the save as CTX fell to Southwestern 2-1.
Up next, the Tornados will prepare for conference play, hosting LeTourneau on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. from the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex. Concordia Texas' game against Hendrix on Sunday was canceled due to the impending weather forecast.
