Tornados lose heartbreaker to TLU to close out Trinity Fall Classic


SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Concordia Texas volleyball team would come up short in the final two matches of the Trinity Fall Classic, falling to Trinity and Texas Lutheran on Saturday.

In the first match of the day, the Tornados would face the No. 5 team in the nation in Trinity on their home floor.

Concordia Texas would go toe-to-toe with the Tigers, but come up short, losing in three sets 17-25, 23-25 and 20-25.

After dropping the first set, the Tornados battled back in the second, turning an early five-point deficit into a one-point lead at 19-18 after a Marjani Myles kill. Trinity would come back though to win the set 25-23 for a two-set lead.

The Tornados were led by Myles, who had nine kills on a .368 hitting percentage in the match, and Kelly Farina, who nearly had a double-double with nine kills and nine digs.

In the second match of the day, CTX took on Texas Lutheran.

The Tornados and Bulldogs would play a five-set thriller, but CTX came out on the losing side, falling ­21-25, 25-17, 25-16, 17-25, 13-15.

Georgia Quiroz and  Farina would each record double-doubles in the game. Quiroz, had 42 assists along with 11 digs for her fourth double-double of the season, while Farina had 11 kills and 20 digs to tally her second double-double of the season.

After holding a 2-1 set lead, TLU would take the fourth set to force a decisive fifth set.

Both teams would go back-and-forth in the final set, as they were knotted up at 12-all after a Tornados timeout. The Bulldogs would win three of the final four points though to take the match 3-2.

Up next, Concordia Texas will open conference on the road when they travel to Abilene, Texas to take on Hardin-Simmons on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
