AUSTIN, Texas –
Payton Berger recorded her fourth 20-point game of the season, but the Concordia Texas women's basketball team came up short on Saturday to Hardin-Simmons, falling 56-39.
Berger nearly had a double-double to lead the Tornados, scoring a team-high 20 points and pulling down nine rebounds.
Concordia Texas would have a tough day offensively though, shooting 22 percent from the floor as a team.
After trailing 14-5 early, the Tornados would outscore the Cowgirls 12-8 in the second quarter, thanks in part to Berger and
Kaycie Dunkerley, who would each score five points in the period to close the gap to three as the teams headed to the locker room.
In the second half, HSU would begin to pull away, scoring 21 in the third frame. The Tornados would seek a comeback in the final quarter, but fell short, losing 56-39.
Dunkerley would finish with 10 points for her 15th double-figures scoring output of the season, while off the bench,
Allie Garza tallied at least five assists for the third time this season along with four points.
Concordia Texas will look to get back to their winning ways on Jan. 19 when the Cru of Mary Hardin-Baylor come to Austin, Texas for a 1 p.m. matchup inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
