AUSTIN, Texas –
Payton Berger produced her third double-double of the season, but it was not enough as the Concordia Texas women's basketball team fell 79-54 to seventh-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday afternoon at Concordia Fieldhouse.
Berger, a junior from Azle, Texas, put up a game-high 18 points to go along with 11 rebounds as the Tornados dropped to 7-11, 3-6 in the ASC on the year.
The Tornados started the game with a flurry, opening the game on a 17-6 run highlighted by 3-pointers from
Kaycie Dunkerley, KeTurah Taylor and Berger to take an 11 point lead.
The Cru rallied back, however, scoring 16 straight points to take a 24-22 lead at the end of the first quarter.
UMHB controlled the pace and stretched the lead in the second quarter, growing the lead to as many as 12 and headed into the locker room with a 43-31 lead.
After trailing 55-31 early in the second half, CTX got back into it with a 13-4 run to cut the deficit to 15 at the end of the third.
The Tornados started the fourth quarter off effectively as well, using a 7-0 run to make the score 65-53 with 6:56 left to play. The Cru responded to the 7-0 run by scoring the final 13 points of the game to take home the victory.
