ALPINE, Texas –
Spencer Bone knocked down seven 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 26 points and the Concordia Texas men's basketball team rallied from a 14-point second half deficit to defeat Sul Ross State 112-109 in overtime on Thursday.
The Tornados would shoot 57 percent from the field in the second half, led by
Joe Neal's 17 points in the half, outscoring the Lobos 55-45 to knot it up at 97-all to force overtime.
In the overtime period, the teams would exchange baskets before Bone knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to give CTX a 105-101 lead halfway through the period.
The Tornados would go 6-of-7 from the charity stripe down the stretch and held a three-point lead with five seconds to play. After Neal's free throw miss, the Lobos would seek a game-tying basket but it was off the mark and CTX held on for the 112-109 win.
Neal finished with 25 points, including a 14-of-17 performance at the free-throw line, along with a team-high nine rebounds. Bone, meanwhile, shot 50 percent from behind the arc on his way to a team-high 26 points.
The Tornados would put on a rebounding performance as well, outrebounding Sul Ross 42-29, including snagging 19 offensive boards for 18 second chance points. Five players finished with at least five rebounds in the game.
DeTarrius Kirk and
Maluw Deng each finished in double figures for CTX, putting up 18 and 11 points, respectively. With the win, the Tornados continue to remain atop the American Southwest Conference West Division standings with a 7-3 mark.
Next, CTX will travel to Brownwood, Texas for a conference matchup with Howard Payne on Saturday at 3 p.m. inside the Brownwood Coliseum.
