BROWNWOOD, Texas –
Lindsay Carter scored in double figures for the second straight game but it was not enough as the Concordia Texas women's basketball team fell to Howard Payne 61-35 on Saturday.
Carter went 3-of-7 from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers and pulled down five rebounds for the Tornados, who were unable to find their offensive spark in the first half.
In the first period, CTX would stay close with the Yellow Jackets, knotted up at 8-all halfway through the quarter. Howard Payne would score 11 of the next 14 points though and held an eight-point lead after one.
Kaycie Dunkerley would hit her second 3-pointer of the half in the second period as the Tornados headed to the locker room, trailing 32-14 at halftime.
Dunkerley finished the game with eight points, and now has 67 3-pointers for the season, three away from the program's single-season record.
In the second half, CTX would have its highest-scoring quarter of the game in the third period, but the Yellow Jackets would not relinquish the lead as they went on to take the contest 61-35.
The Tornados will look to bounce back into the win column on Thursday when they travel to Abilene, Texas for a matchup with Hardin-Simmons at 5:30 p.m.
