ROUND ROCK, Texas –
Rodrigo Arellano's goal in the 60th minute proved to be the difference for the Concordia Texas men's soccer team, holding off Sul Ross State late and winning 1-0 on Thursday.
It was stalemate for most of the game between the Tornados and Lobos as neither team was able to break the scoreless tie in the first half.
At the end of 45 minutes, the teams headed to the locker room tied at 0-0.
In the second half, CTX broke through SRSU's defense as
Xavier Polk received a throw-in down the right side of the box, crossing it into middle, where Arellano fired it into the left side of the net and made it 1-0.
In a physical battle, where the teams combined for 26 total fouls, the Tornados looked to hold off a Lobos late comeback.
Goalkeeper
Erik Rodriguez, who had three saves on the night, was there in the 83rd minute for the late save before
Zack Kusak blocked another SRSU shot inside the box off a corner kick to maintain CTX's slim lead.
The Tornados cleared the ball in the final minutes of the game and held on to win it 1-0.
Next up, CTX will return to the pitch on Saturday to face Howard Payne at 3:30 p.m. in Round Rock, Texas at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
