Tornados' comeback falls short to Howard Payne

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Savannah McHam and Kaycee Moore each registered a goal in the first half to even the score, but the Concordia Texas women's soccer team fell short to Howard Payne on Saturday, falling 3-2 at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.

The Tornados were aggressive offensively throughout the game, recording 21 shots for the day, including 12 of them on goal.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 2-0 lead after finding the back of the net in the 11th and 29th minute.

Concordia Texas would not go quietly though, responding within seconds of HPU's goal, as Cayla Gonzalez cut through the Yellow Jackets' defense before finding McHam on the left side of the box and firing it past the goalie into the right side of the net to cut it to 2-1.

In the 39th minute, the Tornados were awarded a penalty kick after a handball in the box. Moore, who took the PK, followed her initial shot, which was saved by the Yellow Jackets, pushing it into the goal and leveling the game at 2-all.

In the second half, still even at 2-2, HPU went back on top, scoring in the 69th minute to make it 3-2.

Concordia Texas would persist, earning a scoring opportunity in the 75th minute after being awarded another penalty kick. Enyta Luminosu's shot, though, went sailing over the crossbar and the score remained 3-2.

Moore looked tie it up once again in the final minutes of the game, but her shot was saved in the 86th minute and the Tornados fell to the Yellow Jackets 3-2.

Next, CTX will begin a four-game road trip, first traveling to Pineville, La., where they will face Louisiana College on Thursday at 5 p.m.
