PINEVILLE, Texas – Seven different players scored at least one goal and the Concordia Texas men's soccer team set a program record for most goals in a single game, routing Louisiana College 9-1 on Thursday at Wildcat Stadium.
It is the most goals scored in a single game by the Tornados in program history, breaking the previous record of seven goals in one game recorded back on Sept. 24, 2016 against Howard Payne.
From the opening whistle, it was all CTX, scoring five goals in the first half, including four scored in the game's first 20 minutes.
Rodrigo Arellano scored the first two goals for the Tornados, before
Xavier Polk and
Edgar Guerrero each found the back of the net to make it 4-0.
The Wildcats would scratch across a goal in the 32nd minute, but
Marco Vazquez and the Tornados responded with a goal in the 38th minute and led 5-1 at the break.
In the second half, CTX continued their scoring trend, adding four more goals.
Zack Kusak registered the his first goal of the season in the 54th minute followed by a quick goal two minutes later from
Cole McCue.
Chris Rivas made it 8-1 with a goal in the 61st minute to break the program's single-game record.
Polk closed out the offensive onslaught by the Tornados by finishing off his second goal of the night in the 83rd minute and CTX rolled to a 9-1 win.
Next, the Tornados will head to Jackson, Miss., facing Belhaven on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
