ABILENE, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking loss on Thursday, falling to the McMurry 1-0 at Wilford Moore Stadium.
The Tornados and War Hawks were in a defensive battle throughout the game, combining for a total of nine shots.
In the first half, CTX had three opportunities to break the scoreless tie against the War Hawks, but were unable to find the back of the net.
Alicia Pineda nearly put the Tornados ahead in the 40th minute, but her shot was saved by McM's Cindy Villasana, and the teams were knotted in a 0-0 tie at halftime.
In the second half, the teams continued to be in a stalemate. In the 84th minute, though, the War Hawks scored the game's first goal and led 1-0.
Concordia Texas was unable to respond before the final whistle, falling 1-0.
The Tornados will have a quick turnaround, facing Hardin Simmons on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Abilene, Texas.
