ABILENE, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's soccer team went toe-to-toe with Hardin-Simmons, led by goalkeeper
Erik Rodriguez, but after 110 minutes of play the teams settled for a 0-0 tie on Saturday at the HSU Soccer Complex.
The Tornados defense kept the opposing team off the scoreboard for the eighth time this season despite the Cowboys firing off 22 shots on the night, including seven on goal.
In the first half, CTX registered four shots as a team, including a shot by
Jason Saco-Vertiz, who looked to open the scoring in the 10th minute, but HSU's Trent Ivy was there for the save.
Rodriguez, meanwhile, had three defensive saves in the half, including a diving save in the 26th minute to keep it 0-0. At halftime, the game remained scoreless.
In the second half, Rodriguez once again came up clutch for the Tornados, recording four saves. In the final minutes of the half, the San Antonio, Texas native was there for the save to keep the Cowboys off the board and the teams headed to overtime.
In the overtime periods, CTX tallied three shots, none of them on goal. Meanwhile, the defense limited HSU to only two shots in overtime as neither team was able to break the scoreless game, ending in a 0-0 tie.
The Tornados will return home for their final regular season game of the season, hosting Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday at 7:30 p.m., at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex in Round Rock, Texas. Prior to the game, CTX will honor its seniors
