Tornados' comeback falls short to Ozarks

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Victor Gomez notched his first goal of the season, leading to overtime, but the Concordia Texas men's soccer team fell short to Ozarks, 2-1 on Thursday at Hurie Field.

In the first half, it was a scoreless battle between the Tornados and Eagles as neither team broke through the defense to find the back of the net.

Landon Nelson and Cole McCue would each have scoring opportunities late in the half, but UO's goalkeeper Logan Valestin was there for the saves and the teams were in a stalemate at the halfway point.

In the second half, the Eagles would break through and score the first goal of the game in the 51st minute to make it 1-0.

Concordia Texas did not back down though, responding with a goal in the 67th minute to level it at 1-all, as Joel Abrego found Victor Gomez, who fired it into the back of the net.

Late in the half, still tied at 1-1, Abrego looked to give the Tornados the lead but UO was there for the save. At the end of 90 minutes, the teams remained tied and headed to overtime.

In the first overtime period, the Eagles scored in the 91st minute, ending the game as CTX fell 2-1.

Up next, the Tornados will travel to Richardson, Texas to face UT Dallas on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
