Vazquez scores, Tornados draw against Comets

RICHARDSON, Texas – Marco Vazquez converted a penalty kick in the 88th minute to force overtime, but it was all the Concordia Texas men's soccer team was able to surmount, ending in a 1-1 tie against UT Dallas on Saturday at UTD Soccer Field.

The Tornados and Comets played a physical battle throughout the game as seven yellow cards were handed out on the night.

In the first half, both teams were unable to find the back of the net and headed to the locker room locked in a scoreless tie after 45 minutes.

In the second period, UTD broke the tie with a goal in the 68th minute to take a 1-0 lead.

In the final minutes of the game, looking for the equalizer, a Comets foul inside the box resulted in a penalty kick opportunity for CTX in the 88th minute. Vaquez would go on to smash the shot into the back of the net, bring the Tornados level at 1-all. It is Vazquez's fourth goal of the season, tying him for the the team lead.

Undecided after 90 minutes, the teams headed to overtime.

Zack Kusak looked to end the game in the first minute of the first overtime period, but his shot went right of the goal.

After two 10-minute overtime periods, neither team was able to score and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Next up, CTX will return home to face Sul Ross State on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Round Rock, Texas at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
