Tornados' win streak halted against UMHB

AUSTIN, Texas – Tristyn Massey recorded her fifth double-double of the season, registering 11 digs and 11 kills, but the Concordia Texas volleyball team's seven-game win streak came to an end, falling 3-0 to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday.

The Tornados, looking for their first win over the Cru since 2015, came up short 20-25, 20-25 and 19-25, the team's first loss since Sept. 14.

In the first set, CTX would tally 13 kills, including a kill from Sam Mendez, closing the deficit to 14-12 midway through the set. The Tornados looked to rally late, but UMHB walked away with an opening set win.

In the second set, the Tornados, bounced back, opening the frame on an 8-3 run after kills from Sarah Ghormley and Cassie Jackson. Leading 14-9 though, the Cru would reel off seven straight points to take their first lead. Mary Hardin-Baylor would not relinquish the lead, taking the second set too.

In the final set, CTX would seek a comeback, holding a 19-18 lead after Jackson's third kill of the match, but UMHB won the final seven points of the match, ending it in three sets.

Massey finished with a team-high 11 kills, while Rylee Davis inched closer towards 1000 digs, leading the team with 15 digs. The Austin, Texas native is now at 956 digs for her career. Georgia Quiroz and Lianne VanDyke, meanwhile, had 18 and 16 assists, respectively.

Up next, the Tornados will head out on the road, facing Howard Payne on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Brownwood, Texas.
