ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Concordia Texas women's soccer team celebrated its six seniors and qualified for their 10th straight American Southwest Conference Tournament appearance despite falling to Mary Hardin-Baylor 2-0 on Friday at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
The Tornados entered Friday's contest in a tie for seventh with three other teams in the American Southwest Conference standings, seeking to reach the conference tournament for the 10th straight season.
Prior to kick off, CTX celebrated senior night, honoring its six players which included
Erin Moore,
Marissa Cruz,
Alicia Pineda,
Pamela Lasprilla,
Kaycee Moore and
Kayla Carlove.
The Cru did not wait long after the game's initial whistle as they opened the scoring with a goal in the second minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Mary Hardin-Baylor doubled their lead less than 10 minutes later as the Tornados fell behind 2-0.
Concordia Texas fired off six shots in the first half but only put one on frame. Moore nearly cut the deficit in half in the 25th minute, shooting towards the bottom right post but it went just wide of the goal.
At halftime, the Tornados headed to the locker room trialing 2-0.
In the second half, CTX had multiple opportunities to cut in the deficit, but came up short. Off a free kick in the 54th minute,
Enyta Luminosu fired a shot towards frame but just went high.
Carlove also joined in on the offensive attack for the Tornados, looking for her first goal of the season in the 85th minute but saw her shot go wide as CTX went on to fall 2-0 to Cru.
Despite the loss, the Tornados finished the regular season in a tie for eighth in the ASC standings along with East Texas Baptist and Ozarks. Concordia Texas holds the better record among the trio of teams in head-to-head matchups on the season and wins the tiebreaker, earning the eight seed in the conference tournament.
It is the 10th straight conference tournament appearance for the program, the third-longest active streak among ASC schools.
The Tornados will now head out to Abilene, Texas for a matchup against Hardin-Simmons in the ASC Quarterfinals on Tuesday at 5 p.m. In the regular season contest, CTX fell to the Cowgirls 4-0, but recorded a shutout in the second half.
