FOREST GROVE, Ore. –
Antoine Henderson shot 15-of-18 from the field, finishing with a career-high 32 points and 10 rebounds as the Concordia Texas men's basketball team came from behind for the second game in a row, defeating Pacific 114-106 on Friday in the first day of the Ken Schumann Classic.
The Tornados, who trailed by as much as 13 points, shot 62 percent from the floor, outscoring the Boxers 65-46 in the second half to overcome a double-digit second half deficit for the second consecutive game.
Henderson along with Meikle led the charge, combining for 36 points in the second half and shot 15-of-19 from the field. Meikle, who struggled in the first half and only had two points at halftime, found his groove, scoring a game-high 19 points in the second half, including going 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
In the first half, CTX shot 56 percent from the field, including a 50 percent mark from behind the arc, but trailed PU 60-49 as the teams headed to the locker room.
In the second half, the Tornados opened on a 21-8 run led by Meikle, who scored 10 straight points to give CTX its first lead since the 6:54 mark in the first period.
Henderson, meanwhile, followed with eight straight points of his own before Meikle intercepted a Boxer pass and finished with a two-handed jam to give the Tornados an 80-73 lead.
Pacific did not go quietly though, going on a 10-4 burst to pull within one halfway through the period.
The Tornados did not break, reeling off seven points in row, capped off by a
Gonzalo Munoz layup and never looked back, defeating the Boxers 114-106.
Concordia Texas finished with 20 assists on 45 made baskets and scored 76 points in the paint. It is the most points scored by the Tornados in a single game since totaling 117 points in a win over Willamette back on Nov. 16, 2018.
Henderson led all scorers with his 32 points and game-high 10 rebounds. Meikle finished with 21 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals, while
Zaid Harris and Luis Gonzalez each had 12 points for the game.
Henderson's 32 points are the most by a CTX player since
Joe Neal and
Philip Meikle each had 37 points in a loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor back on Feb. 9 last season.
The Tornados will have a quick turnaround, facing No. 20 Whitman on Saturday at 6 p.m. CST on the final day of the Ken Schumann Classic in Forest Grove, Ore.
