SALEM, Ore. – The Concordia Texas men's basketball team shot nearly 50 percent from behind the arc as five players scored in doubles figures in a 106-79 rout of Willamette on Sunday in the Cone Field House.
Philip Meikle led the Tornados, pouring in a game-high 21 points on 12 shots, while
Tommy Holiday nearly had a double-double, shooting a perfect 7-of-7 from the field and grabbing nine rebounds.
Concordia Texas harassed the Bearcats all game, forcing a season-high 30 turnovers for 47 points. Meanwhile, the Tornados' offense could not be stopped, scoring over 100 points for the second time in their last three games, shooting over 56 percent from the floor.
Concordia Texas opened the game with an 8-0 spurt after
Christian Hammett's 3-pointer. Hammett finished the game with a career-high 10 points along with four steals.
The Bearcats remained within striking distance though, cutting the deficit to three midway through the half. The Tornados finished out the half on strong note, closing with a 21-11 run and led 49-35 at the break.
In the second half, CTX began to pour it on, beginning the period with a 26-6 run.
The Tornados maintained control throughout the rest of the half, holding WC to 44 percent shooting from the field.
Concordia Texas took their largest lead of the game at 102-64 after
Dillion Bennett's breakaway dunk in the closing minutes of the game, cruising past the Bearcats with a 106-79 win for their third victory in their last four games.
Thirteen different players scored at least a point for the Tornados, registering 53 points from their bench, including
Trevon Hester totaling a career-best 12 points, while
Alexander Estrada also had a career night, scoring 11 points.
Next, CTX will return home for its season opener, hosting St. Thomas (TX) on Saturday at 3 p.m. inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
