Tornados fall in home opener to St. Thomas (TX)

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's basketball team, having won three of their last four games, hosted St. Thomas (TX) in its home opener on Saturday, falling to the Celts 100-68.

Eleven different Tornados at least scored, led by Greg Harbor's team-high 10 points off the bench, but UST shot over 50 percent from behind the arc to defeat CTX for the second time this season.

In the first half, the Tornados fell behind 13-0 before Jordan Berry knocked down a 3-pointer. Berry tied his career-high, scoring eight points on three shots, all coming in the opening half.

Concordia Texas rallied to cut the deficit to 21-16 after Antoine Henderson's layup late in the half, but it was the closest the team would get to the Celts, who closed of the half on a 15-8 run and held a 39-28 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, Harbor shot 3-of-6 from the field for his team-high 10 points, but the Tornados' offense struggled from the field, shooting only 37 percent from the floor.

St. Thomas (TX) outscored CTX 61-40 in the second period as the Tornados fell 100-68.

Philip Meikle, who was in foul trouble throughout the game, finished with nine points, while Spencer Bone grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and went 4-of-4 from the free throw line for four points.

Concordia Texas will have a quick turnaround, hosting Arlington Baptist on Tuesday at 7 p.m. inside Concordia Fieldhouse.
