Dunkerley ties program record, Tornados fall to Bulldogs

SEGUIN, Texas – Kaycie Dunkerley knocked down four 3-pointers to tie the program's all-time 3-pointers made record, but it was not enough for the Concordia Texas women's basketball team, falling 66-57 to Texas Lutheran on Tuesday at the Memorial Gymnasium.

Dunkerley shot 5-of-12 from the field, including a 4-of-10 from behind the arc, finishing the game with a team-high 17 points along with three rebounds. She now has 174 made 3-pointers for her career, which ties her with Ashley Edwards for the program's all-time record.

The Tornados shot 44 percent from downtown in the first half and held a 33-31 lead over the Bulldogs at halftime.

Dunkerley was the go-to scorer for CTX, pouring in 12 points in the first half, including the program-tying 3-pointer made at the 2:39 mark in the second quarter. Havyn Perez, meanwhile, gave the Tornados their largest lead of the game after her layup early in the second quarter to make it 18-13.

In the third quarter, TLU outscored CTX 15-9 in the period to retake the lead at 46-42.

In the final frame, the Bulldogs began to pull away, as they shot 62 percent from the field in the quarter. The Tornados looked for one more rally after trailing by as much as 15 in the quarter, but were unable to complete a comeback, falling 66-57.

Chelsea Cogborn nearly had a double-double on the night, finishing with 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds, including six in the second half, while Payton Berger shot 3-of-6 from the field and had eight points in the loss.

Up next, CTX will host no. 21 Whitman in its home opener on Friday at 5:30 p.m. inside Concordia Fieldhouse. The Tornados opened the season against the Blues back on Nov. 15 in the Whit Classic, coming up short 90-51.
