AUSTIN, Texas –
Carson Cox finished the day 4-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored as the Concordia Texas baseball team split a pair of games against Redlands on Sunday at Tornado Field.
The Tornados started the day with a 5-3 come-from-behind win but could not push the winning streak to six as they fell 4-0 in game two for their first loss of the season.
In game one, CTX picked up a comeback victory thanks to two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth in the seven-inning affair.
Redlands struck first with a run in the top of the first, but the Tornados responded with a run of their own on a sacrifice fly from Cox to tie the game.
In the top half of the fourth, CTX took the lead after
Owen Hill ripped an RBI single through the left side to bring home Cox.
The Bulldogs responded in the top half of the fifth with two runs to take a 3-2 lead. They could not add any more, however, as
Calvin Bush came in and closed the door by stranding the bases loaded.
The Tornados did not trail for long, as
Bret Leiferman drove in the tying run on a fielder's choice and CTX took the lead when
Marcus Thach raced home on a throwing error by the catcher.
Ryan Clouse provided some insurance for the Tornados when he singled through the left side in the sixth to bring home pinch runner
Jayden Hernandez.
Bush (1-0), a senior out of Austin, Texas, picked up the win on the mound after tossing 2.1 innings, allowing just no runs and no hits while striking out four.
After recording back-to-back hits in his first two at-bats,
Casen Novak extended his consecutive his streak to 10 straight at-bats before grounding out in the sixth.
Redlands turned the tables in the second game of the day, making the most of four hits to grab the win.
After taking a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the fifth, the Bulldogs added three runs in the seventh inning to take a 4-0 lead.
The Tornados threatened to cut into the lead when they loaded the bases on a single and back-to-back walks. Redlands got out of the jam, however, getting a double play to end the threat.
Next up, CTX will take on Schreiner in a non-conference matchup at Tornado Field starting with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
