AUSTIN, Texas –
Summer Harper had three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs as the Concordia Texas softball team swept Trinity in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday.
In the first game of the night, the Tornados and Tigers would battle in a pitcher's duel.
Trinity would strike first with a run in the third inning and take a 1-0 lead all the way to the sixth, when CTX began their comeback.
Haley Dennett led off with a double and moved to third on the bunt single by
Ashley Hallmark.
Kayla Patton would bring home Dennett on her own bunt single to tie the game at 1-1 all.
The Tornados would take the lead after a fly out moved Hallmark to third, who would then come home on
Mycahla Howard's fielder's choice to make it 2-1.
In the seventh,
Simone Langland would work around a leadoff single to shut down the Tigers and pick up her second win of the season.
In the second game of the night, CTX's offense would come alive, scoring 10 runs on eight hits and ending the game in five innings by run-rule.
Harper would put the Tornados on the board in the second inning with a solo shot over the left field wall. Concordia Texas would tack on three more runs in the next frame, including an RBI double from Hallmark and an RBI single by Harper.
In the fourth, the Tornados would blow the game open, batting around and platting seven runs to make it 10-0.
Taylor Verinsky, meanwhile, was dealing in the circle for CTX. She would allow only two hits over five innings and strike out a pair as the Tornados completed the sweep with a 10-0 win.
Harper finished with three hits and three runs batted in, while Hallmark and Howard each drove in a pair of runs in the game.
Concordia Texas will now head out on the road to Abilene, Texas to face Hardin-Simmons in a conference three-game series, facing the Cowgirls on Friday at 2 p.m.
