Tornados suffer heartbreaking loss to Hardin-Simmons

ABILENE, Texas – Anissa Garcia hit her first home run of the season, but the Concordia Texas softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader to Hardin-Simmons on Friday.

In the first game, the Tornados would tally eight hits in the game, but only score one run, falling to the Cowgirls 3-1.

Hardin-Simmons struck first with all three runs coming in the second inning, aided by a CTX error.

In the fourth, the Tornados would get on the board thanks to Garcia's solo home run to left, cutting it to 3-1.

In their final at-bat, Garcia would double to center to lead off the inning, but were unable to capitalize, losing 3-1 in game one.

In the second game of the day, CTX would take advantage of three Cowgirls' errors in the first inning, pushing across a run for a 1-0 lead.

The Tornados would score a run each in the next two innings on Brianna Heredia's RBI single in the second and Garcia's RBI double in the third and the teams were tied at 3-all after three frames.

In the fifth, CTX would retake the lead with three runs in the inning. After back-to-back one-out singles from Kayla Patton and Miranda Mueller, the Tornados would retake the lead on Summer Harper's sac fly.

Concordia Texas was not finished, loading the bases with two outs. Heredia would come through with a two-run single into center to make it 6-3.

In the seventh, HSU scored four runs on three hits, winning the game on a walk-off home run to defeat the Tornados 7-6.

Heredia finished the game 3-for-4 from the plate with three RBIs, while Kayla Patton had a pair of hits and a run scored.

Concordia Texas' win streak comes to an end at three games. The Tornados will look to back bounce back on Saturday when they play the Cowgirls in the series finale at noon in Abilene, Texas.
