Tornados fall in two contests against Louisiana College

PINEVILLE, La. – The 11th-ranked Concordia Texas baseball team dropped a pair of contests against Louisiana College 6-0 and 4-3 Saturday at Billy Allgood-Skip Converse Field.

With the losses, the Tornados fall to 17-6 overall and 3-3 in American Southwest Conference play.

Game one of the day was a pitchers duel through the first four innings, with both Matthew Williams and LC pitcher Deauton Delgado putting up four straight zeros to start the game.

The Wildcats broke through with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead. The runs for LC snapped a 27.1 consecutive scoreless innings streak for Williams (6-1), who had previously claimed three straight ASC pitcher of the week honors.

Williams, a junior from Austin, Texas, took his first loss on the hill after tossing 5.1 innings, allowing seven hits, five runs and striking out five.

After LC added three more in the sixth, the Delgado came back out for the seventh and tossed a perfect inning to seal a no hitter.

In game two, the Wildcats started the scoring with a single run in the bottom of the first inning.

Louisiana College added another run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to take a 4-0 lead heading into the eighth.

Reed Carlton got the scoring started for CTX in the eighth with an RBI single to left to bring home Kalen Moreno.

After Bret Lieferman raced home on an error to cut the deficit in half, Collin Mask added another run on an RBI groundout, scoring Owen Hill to make the score 4-3.

The Tornados produced two base runners in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to bring them home.

Next up, CTX will return home for the first time in eight games to face off with UT Dallas in a three game set at Tornado Field starting with a doubleheader on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
