Tornados drop doubleheader to UMHB

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas softball team returned to conference play on Friday in a doubleheader against Mary Hardin-Baylor, falling in both games.

In game one, the Tornados would score a run in the third and the fourth, but it was not enough, dropping it 4-2 to the Cru.

Mary Hardin-Baylor struck first, scoring two runs in the second aided by a CTX error, to go up 2-0. They would tack on another run in third to extend it to 3-0.

Concordia Texas would claw their way back with a run coming in the third and fourth innings.

With one out away, the Tornados would string together three straight singles, including Brianna Heredia working a 12-pitch at-bat to produce a single to load the bases. Haley Dennett followed with an RBI ground out to get CTX on the board and cut it to 3-1.

In the fourth, Anissa Garcia and Olivia Kaase began the inning with back-to-back singles. After a sac bunt by Mycahla Howard moved the runners over, Garcia would score on Ashley Hallmark's fielder's choice to close the deficit to 3-2.

The Cru countered with a run in fifth to push the lead back to two.

The Tornados would seek to comeback, but fell short, dropping it 4-2.

In game two of the night, CTX were unable to find a rhythm at the plate, tallying three hits in a 2-0 loss.

The Tornados would move a runner to third twice in the game but were unable to push a run across the plate.

The Cru would break the scoreless game in the third with a pair of runs on three hits.

Concordia Texas would look to rally, but fall to UMHB in the second game of the night,

The Tornados will look to snap their four-game losing streak in the series finale on Saturday against UMHB at 12 p.m. from Tornado Softball Field.
