Tornados rally, blow away Belhaven 14-4

AUSTIN, Texas – Facing a four-run deficit, the Concordia Texas softball team rallied, scoring 14 unanswered runs, highlighted by a seven-run third inning on their way to a 14-4 blowout win over Belhaven on Thursday to snap a three-game losing streak.

Eight hitters would at least drive in one run, led by Anissa Garcia's  go 2-for-4  performance from the plate, driving in four runs, capped off by a three-run bomb to center to end the game. Her third home run of the season.

Summer Harper had a hit and drove in three, while Brianna Heredia and Miranda Mueller would record two hits apiece.

The Blazers opened the game scoring a pair of runs each in the first and second innings.

In the third, CTX would begin their comeback, taking advantage of four straight Belhaven walks to open the inning and cutting the deficit to 4-1. Olivia Kaase and Annisa Garcia would follow with RBI singles, bringing the Tornados within a run as Harper came to bat with the bases loaded.

Harper would give the Tornados the lead for good, clearing the bases with a three-run double before being thrown out at third. Concordia Texas was not done though as Mycahla Howard continued the inning, reaching on an error followed by a Mueller single. Heredia would make it 7-4 on an RBI double to left center.

The Tornados would add three more runs in the fourth, including a Mueller two-run double, scoring Howard and Harper and pushing the lead to 10-4.

In the fifth, CTX would secure the win with four more runs, highlighted by Garcia's three-run home run, ending the game 14-4.

Heather Casiano, who entered in the second in relief, picked up her sixth win of the year, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings and allowing only two hits.

The Tornados will look to lock up a series win on Friday when they host the Blazers in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at Tornado Softball Field.
