AUSTIN, Texas –
Reed Carlton had two hits, driving in a run, but it was not enough as the No. 21 Concordia Texas baseball team came up short to No. 5 Texas Lutheran 6-2 on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup.
In a game where 19 pitchers were used between the two teams, the Tornados would tally seven hits on the night, including two-hit performances from Carlton and
Casen Novak, who finished 2-for-5 from the dish.
In the first, the Tornados would fall behind early as the Bulldogs went deep with a two-run home run to center to open the scoring.
In the bottom half of the inning, CTX would counter with a leadoff single from Novak, followed by a
Jacob Gwynne double to left-center. The Tornados would push across a run later in the inning on Carlton's single through the left to cut it to 2-1.
It would remain a 2-1 deficit until the sixth when TLU tacked on another run to make it 3-1.
The Tornados would make one last rally in the ninth, trailing 6-1, as
Collin Mask led off the inning with a pinch-hit solo home run over the left field wall, trimming the lead to four.
Kalen Moreno followed with a walk but it was all CTX could muster up, as the next three batters would be retired in order and the Tornados fell 6-2 to the Bulldogs.
Concordia Texas will look to end its two-game skid when they travel to Alpine, Texas for a three-game set against Sul Ross State, beginning on Friday at 7 p.m.
