ALPINE, Texas – The Concordia Texas softball team faced Sul Ross State in a doubleheader on Friday, coming up short in both games.
In game one, the Tornados would score four runs on seven hits, but have their comeback fall short, dropping game one 6-4.
Concordia Texas would strike first with two runs in the first inning. After a pop out to begin the inning,
Payton Walker would walk followed by Brianna Heredia reaching on a hit by pitch. A Lobos throwing error would score Walker, followed by an Oliva Kaase RBI single to make it 2-0.
Sul Ross State responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to knot it up at two-all after one inning.
In the third, the Tornados would retake the lead as
Haley Dennett tripled to lead off the inning and would score one out later on Heredia's RBI ground out and make it 3-2.
The Lobos would come back with four runs in the fifth and CTX trailed 6-3 going to the sixth.
Maddy Ellison, in a pinch-hitting spot, would drive in
Taylor Smith on an RBI single through the left side to cut the deficit to 6-4.
It was not enough though as the Tornados come back fell short, losing 6-4.
In game two, the Tornados would total four hits, but fall to Sul Ross State 5-0.
The Lobos would score at least a run in each of the first three innings and lead 4-0. Sul Ross State would tack on a run in the fifth to make it 5-0.
Concordia Texas would look to rally in the seventh inning, but were retired in order to end the game.
The Tornados will to salvage the series on Saturday when they take on the Lobos at 11 a.m. at Lady Lobo Field in Alpine, Texas.
