AUSTIN, Texas –
Haley Dennett had a 3-for-6 performance at the plate, but it was not enough as the Concordia Texas softball team fell to UT Tyler in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
In game one, Dennett tallied two of the Tornados' three hits as the Patriots took game one 8-0.
Concordia Texas would threaten early on, moving a runner into scoring position in the first and third innings.
In the third, the Tornados would get things going with one out. Brianna Heredia would reach first on a hit by pitch, followed by a Dennett single. The runners would move up a base thanks to
Payton Walker's sac bunt bringing up
Olivia Kaase, who would ground out to short, ending the frame.
The Patriots would score at least a run in the next four innings to go on top 8-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Ashley Hallmark led off the seventh, reaching on a hit by pitch, but the next three CTX hitters would go down in order, concluding game one.
In game two,
Lulu Arroyo had two hits in her second start of the season, including an RBI triple, but the Tornados fell to the Patriots 9-1.
UT Tyler opened the game, scoring three runs in the first and two more in the second and led 5-0 as CTX came to bat in the second.
The Tornados would get a run back in the second with a two-out rally. Anissa Garica singled to left, followed by L. Arroyo's triple to the left field wall, scoring Garcia and make it 5-1.
The Patriots would answer with three runs in the fifth and added a run in the seventh to push it to 9-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, CTX looked to respond as L. Arroyo singled up the middle to begin the inning. One out later, Heredia singled to left, bringing
Dennett to the plate. She would reach on a fielder's choice, but
Maria Arroyo would fly out to center to end the game.
The Tornados will close out the series with a single game on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Tornado Softball Field.
