Tornados' magical run ends in NCAA Super Regionals

ORANGE, Calif. – The Concordia Texas baseball team's season ended in heartbreaking fashion on Saturday, falling to No. 6 Chapman 3-2 on a walk-off single in the ninth inning and were eliminated in the second game of the NCAA Super Regional at W.O. Hart Park.

The Tornados, who trailed the best-of-three series 1-0 after dropping game one on Friday, were held scoreless through the first seven frames of the game and trailed 2-0 to the Panthers

In the eighth, facing one of the best relief pitchers in Division III in Nick Garcia, CTX was able to tie it up with a two-run rally.

The Tornados loaded the bases up after a strikeout to begin the inning, taking advantage of a pair of walks and a Chapman error. Jacob Gwynne followed, patiently working an RBI walk to cut the deficit in half. One out later,
Marcus Thach tied the game up at 2-all, beating out the throw on a bunt single to first.

In the ninth though, Chapman led off with a walk and moved the runner over on a sac bunt. Bret Leiferman would make a game-saving diving catch in center for the second out, but the Panthers followed with a walk-off single to center as CTX's season ended, falling 3-2.

Calvin Bush, who started for the game for the Tornados, went five innings, allowing only one run, unearned, and struck out four batters. Bush finishes the season with 110 strikeouts, tying the program's single-season record for strikeouts.

Seniors Reed Carlton, Carson Cox and Jacob Stegent all recorded a hit in their final collegiate game as well.

Concordia Texas' season ends in the NCAA Super Regionals with a 37-13 record, their most wins since 2012, and making their deepest playoff run since 2002.
