Tornados fall to Hendrix in season opener

ROUND ROCK, Texas – Jessica De la Hoya scored her first career goal in the 56th minute to even the score, but the Concordia Texas women's soccer team fell short to Hendrix 3-1 in the season opener on Friday.

The Tornados and Warriors were meeting for the first time on the pitch since 1999, while new head coach Andy Tunnicliffe oversaw his first game with the program.

In the first half, Hendrix wasted no time, opening the scoring with a goal in the third minute to take a quick 1-0 lead. It would be all CTX would allow in the first half, stifling the Warriors' offense and headed to the locker rooms trailing 1-0 at the midway point.

In the second half, the Tornados made adjustments and in the 56th minute, De la Hoya broke through the Hendrix defensive back line, going one-on-one with the goalie and smashing the ball into the back of the net to even the score at 1-1.

It is her first collegiate goal of her career for the Marble Falls, Texas native. The Warriors though, were quick in response, retaking the lead with a goal in the 57th minute.

Hendrix added an insurance goal in the 84th minute and CTX came up short in their season opener, losing 3-1.

The Tornados will have a quick turnaround and will look to bounce back after the season-opening loss when they host Huston-Tillotson on Sept. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Round Rock, Texas at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
